The great advances in molecular biology have allowed the discovery of genetic and molecular alterations involved in the development of diseases, especially cancer. One of the main tools for the development of such studies are tumour tissue and other kinds of samples  (serum, cell cultures,..) obtained from patients with this pathology as well as normal tissues as controls. DNA, RNA, proteins and other products useful for research can be thus obtained. Sample obtention, maintenance and generous distribution to investigators are the basic goals of tumour banks. The Oncology Program of Catalunya promoted in 2002 the creation of a Tumour bank network with the aim of providing samples for cancer research and the obtention of results useful for the diagnosis and treatment of these patients.

This web represents such initiative and the access of researchers and interested people to the Tumour Bank Network of Catalunya.
